Change the FAR |

Hot air ballooning has been around for more than 220 years. As an international sport and a family oriented activity it has brought joy to not only to the aeronauts that fly these "gentle giants of the sky" but to passengers, chase crew and spectators alike. For decades aeronauts have tried to convince the administrators of aviation (namely the FAA) to learn about our sport. For over 14 years organizations like the Albuquerque Aerostat Ascension Association www.hotairballooning.org and the Balloon Federation of America www.bfa.net have tried to educate the FAA and the general public as to the need to change the regulation that holds hot air balloons to the flight characteristics of the fix wing world. Now is the time to support our desire to improve the safety of ballooning by asking your local politicians to force the FAA to change 14 CFR 91.119 (d) to include balloons. In so doing ballooning will be a safer sport. In addition the FAA will reduce expenses and manpower requests in addressing enforcement actions that are not in the best interest of the public.
